Louisa Jane was the youngest daughter of Joseph Billingsley (see plot x158). Unlike her elder sister, Julia, who died of grief at the death of her two brothers in a boating accident in 1872, Louisa lived for a further 20 years but still died at the comparatively young age of 47. She married Captain Thomas Adams Matthewman, a master mariner in 1887 at Winchester, They lived in Southampton, where she died in 1892. Thomas died in 1917 at the age of 75 in Colchester. There were no children – perhaps the boating accident had in fact had a profound impact on her, and it is interesting that she is buried in Berkhamsted (her brother Joseph Bullock later chose to be interred with her), rather than with her husband.
