Friends of St Peter's, Great Berkhamsted

Around 25 people gathered on Sunday at the southern end of the Cemetery to take part in one of the largest ever wildlife surveys. The RSPB count is held each year but this is the first time that a group in Rectory Lane Cemetery has taken part.

After a quiet start while the birds checked out this unaccustomed group, all were rewarded with some sightings. Taking the largest number of birds spotted together at any one time 23 birds were recorded.

• 3 Woodpigeon
• 2 Blackbird
• 4 Blue tit
• 10 Goldfinch (this is called a ‘charm’)
• 1 Dunnock
• 2 Robin
• 1 Magpie

Roy Adams volunteer ornithologist and local wildlife enthusiast led the session explaining what to look out for and reminding the group that only birds who actually landed in the trees, on the ground, or on the feeders should be recorded – not those who flew overhead.
